He told the cou t he was d ive to kill Thompso because of his expe ie ce with the healthca e system “afte yea s of e du i g seve e pai s f om a b oke back”.

Ma gio e stated that he had lea ed U itedHealthca e would hold a a ual i vesto co fe e ce i Ma hatta i Decembe 2024.

He also said he emailed U itedHealthca e p io to the co fe e ce “posi g as a i vesto ” a d aski g questio s about the eve t.

“I emailed U itedHealthca e with the i te t to shoot B ia Thompso ,” Ma gio e said i his stateme t. “O the mo i g of Dec. 4, 2024 I shot M . Thompso i Ma hatta i his back.”

Thompso ‘s family said i a stateme t that they will co ti ue to seek justice i both New Yo k state a d Pe sylva ia, whe e Ma gio e was a ested.

“While othi g will ease the pai of losi g him, we a e g ateful that the fede al justice system has held the pe so espo sible fo this hei ous act accou table.

“Now we look to the cou t to e su e that se te ci g eflects the seve ity of this c ime,” the family added.

With the t ial slated to begi i Septembe , he faces eight state cha ges i cludi g seco d deg ee mu de , possessio of a fo ged i st ume t (fo alleged fake d ive ‘s lice se), a d six cou ts of c imi al possessio of a weapo .

O the steps of the cou t o F iday, his lawye s a gued that because he al eady pleaded guilty to fede al cha ges, the state case u s afoul of double jeopa dy – a co stitutio al p otectio that p eve ts a i dividual f om bei g p osecuted twice fo the same c ime.

“New Yo k law does ot pe mit a pe so to be p osecuted a d pu ished twice fo the exact same c ime,” his lawye Ka e F iedma Ag ifilo said.

F iedma Ag ifilo also said that, i maki g a guilty plea i fede al cou t, Ma gio e has accepted “full espo sibility” fo the death of B ia Thompso .

But the Ma hatta Dist ict Atto ey’s office says it is p epa ed to go ahead with the state p osecutio .
