Supreme Court happy with progress in talks in Sunjay Kapur case

The mediator informed that the parties have agreed to hold further discussions among themselves under his supervision

NEW DELHI: After a bitter courtroom battle over the division of the late industrialist Sunjay Kapur’s assets, his family members are now cooperating in a Supreme Court-directed mediation process to arrive at an amicable settlement. The Supreme Court had on May 7 appointed ex-CJI D Y Chandrachud as mediator and asked the parties to appear before him.After going through the preliminary mediation report filed by the former CJI on the high-profile family dispute, a bench of Justices JB Pardiwala and K Vinod Chandran expressed satisfaction over the progress in the matter.”We are happy to note that the mediation is proceeding quite satisfactorily and .

We are also happy to note that the parties concerned are cooperating,” it said.The mediator informed the court that six mediation sessions have been conducted so far, and the parties have agreed to hold further discussions among themselves under his supervision to explore the possibility of “crystallising a holistic settlement of their claims”.”The parties have engaged in detailed discussions regarding the claims and entitlements that arise from the trust structure and the assets forming part of the corpus of the trust,” the court said. It accepted the mediator’s request for more time and permitted mediation to continue until November 2.
