Suvendu Adhikari aide's murder probe: CBI files charge sheet against 11 accused

CBI has filed a charge sheet against 11 accused in the murder of Chandranath Rath.

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a charge sheet against 11 accused in connection with the murder of Chandranath Rath, a close aide of West Bengal chief minister Suvendu Adhikari, news agency PTI reported citing officials on Thursday. This comes days after the CBI arrested brothers Sagar Sonkar and Sahib Sonkar in connection with the murder.Investigators have alleged that Sagar, who previously worked with Rath, acted as a key conspirator by arranging the contract killing and funding the shooters.

The agency is also probing his alleged links with a functionary of a rival political party after call records reportedly showed repeated contact with a local party office.Rath, a close aide and personal assistant to Adhikari, was shot dead by motorcycle-borne assailants on May 6, two days after the Assembly election results. The CBI has alleged the conspiracy had been in the works since December 2025 and has so far arrested multiple alleged shooters and intermediaries in the case.
