FSSAI cracks down on three firms over food safety violations

FSSAI cracks down on three firms over food safety violations

NEW DELHI: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has launched a fresh enforcement drive against food business operators, issuing a product recall, suspending a manufacturing licence and prohibiting the sale of a health supplement over serious violations of food safety regulations. In one action, FSSAI ordered M/s Sun Organic Industries Pvt Ltd to immediately recall its Wonderland Raisins after regulatory testing found pesticide residues exceeding the prescribed limits. Samples tested at both the National Food Laboratory, Ghaziabad, and the Referral Laboratory, NIFTEM-K, were declared “unsafe” under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The company has been directed to recall the entire batch from the market and submit periodic recall status reports.

In a separate action, the food regulator suspended the licence of Dior Pharmaceuticals’ Nutraceutical Manufacturing Unit with immediate effect after an inspection revealed major and critical non-compliances. According to FSSAI, the unit failed to comply with several regulatory and hygiene requirements, including inadequate quality management systems and deficiencies in manufacturing practices.FSSAI also issued a prohibition order against M/s Vatave Health Care, banning the manufacture, storage, distribution and sale of its Folineuro Syrup (Folinic Acid Syrup). The regulator said the product was marketed as a nutritional food supplement with misleading claims related to brain function despite not complying with provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act and the Food Safety and Standards (Health Supplements, Nutraceuticals, Food for Special Dietary Use, Food for Special Medical Purpose, Functional Food and Novel Food) Regulations, 2016.The regulator said the actions were taken to protect consumers and ensure compliance with food safety laws. It warned that violations of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, would invite strict legal and penal action.
