PARLIAMENT SHOWDOWN: Pappu Yadav’s Temple Donation Protest Sparks BJP-Saints Backlash

Parliament witnessed a fresh political confrontation as the deadlock between the ruling party and opposition continued, leading to the adjournment of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha until Monday. Opposition parties intensified their protest over issues including alleged paper leaks and the temple donation controversy, both inside and outside the House. The biggest visual moment came from independent Purnia MP Pappu Yadav, who arrived at the Parliament complex wearing a saint-like outfit and staged a symbolic protest over allegations related to donation irregularities. During the demonstration, a donation box was used as a prop, with opposition MPs participating in the symbolic act. Leaders from the Congress and Samajwadi Party, including Rahul Gandhi, Dimple Yadav, Dharmendra Yadav, and Awadhesh Prasad, were seen joining the protest by placing donations in the box. The performance was presented by opposition leaders as a message against alleged misuse of religious sentiments and donations. However, the protest triggered a strong reaction from the BJP. Party leaders accused Pappu Yadav of disrespecting saffron traditions and hurting the sentiments of saints and religious communities. BJP leaders argued that such symbolic demonstrations inside the Parliament premises were inappropriate and against parliamentary dignity. The controversy also drew criticism from religious figures, with Mahant Raju Das calling the incident unfortunate and alleging that the protest insulted Sanatan traditions and saints. He questioned the use of religious attire and symbols in a political demonstration.
