Assam Floods: Alia Bhatt urges fans to support relief efforts; says 'It happens every year and it still catches us off guard'

Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt has voiced her support for flood-hit Assam, and has even urged her fans and social media followers to come together and help the state. Sharing a heartfelt message on her Instagram stories, Alia shared the scale of the crisis and requested her fans to and fellow Indians to contribute to relief efforts.In her statement, Alia wrote, “Right now, floods are affecting so many parts of our country with Assam being among the hardest hit, facing an incredibly challenging time. More than 60 lives have been lost. Lakhs of people have been displaced. Entire families have lost their homes, their land, their livestock, and for some, even the people they love.She went on to add, “It happens every year and it still catches us off guard. Assam needs immediate relief right now, and it’ll need support for the long road to recovery. If you’ve been wondering how you can help. I’ll be sharing a few ways we can support relief efforts over the next few days, through organisations working on the ground”Her appeal comes as the flood situation in Assam, continues to impact lakhs of people across the state. Fellow Bollywood star, Salman Khan, wih the help of his charitable organisation, also teamed up with a Fan Club (SKFC) from Assam to kickstart the relief campaign. The first phase is focused on distributing ready-to-eat food packets to families in Sivasagar, with supplies being transported from Guwahati.According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), floodwaters continue to affect 3,32,639 people across 622 villages under 21 revenue circles in seven districts—Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon, Sonitpur and Kamrup (Metro). The floods have also severely impacted agriculture, with several hectares of cropland still submerged.
