‘The Odyssey’ had one of the strongest openings in India

Saturday earnings showed a profit of Rs 22 crore, while the first Sunday numbers stood at Rs 21.90 crore. In its opening weekend, the film earned Rs 61.3 crore. As of right now, ‘The Odyssey’ has had quite a smooth ride at the box office. Plot of ‘The Odyssey’ differs from Homer’s ‘Odyssey’

The film revolves around Homer’s epic poem about the King of Ithaca, how he won the Trojan War, and his journey back home to his wife, Penelope, and his son, Telemachus. Christopher Nolan took the tale and made it his own by changing certain aspects of the story. One of the main focal points of the poem was Odysseus’ hubris and his overconfidence in his cunning and skills. However, in Nolan’s film, he realises the gravity of the situation and the weight of his decisions that cost many innocent lives, and throughout the film he suffers from the guilt of taking part in the war. The film’s ending is also changed and quite different to follow this theme. While in the poem, the story ends with Odysseus killing all of Penelope’s suitors and taking back Ithaca, ruling the city after 20 years with his family by his side. However, in the film, he and Penelope leave Ithaca to go into exile as a way to serve penance for his actions, while his son, Telemachus, takes over the kingdom and the throne.DISCLAIMER: The box office numbers and data in this article are compiled from diverse public and industry sources.
