Grammy-winning singer and rapper Chris Brown has pleaded guilty to affray in relation to a 2023 bar fight. According to the latest reports, the singer admitted that he attacked a man in a nightclub without provocation. The news comes a few weeks after the court also ordered the singer to pay his housekeeper USD 13 million in a dog mauling case. Here’s what we know about the case so far.

Chris Brown pleads guilty to attacking man in nightclub in 2023

The Daily Mail reported that the singer had been on trial since earlier this year for attacking a former friend and music producer on the head with a bottle in 2023. He recently pleaded guilty to affray in court, along with his vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, who was also found guilty of the same crime. However, the more serious aggravated assault charges, as well as charges of possession of an offensive weapon against both individuals, were dropped altogether.A statement given by Detective Constable Zara Ripamonti, from the Metropolitan Police Service, read, “This was a disgraceful, unprovoked assault that put a man in hospital. There is no place for serious violence like this in London, and I’m pleased these men accepted what they did wasn’t just completely unacceptable – but criminal. This has been a long investigation, and we’ve worked with police colleagues in the UK to bring these two men to justice.”Both Brown and his vocal coach, Akinlolu, will be sentenced on October 26 at Southwark Crown Court, according to Judge Tony Baumgartner’s bail for the two individuals. The terms of the bail dictate that while the singer can leave the UK between his guilty plea and his official sentencing date, he must return a day prior for the final hearing. The outlet also reported that Brown attended the hearing wearing a tan suit, gold-rimmed sunglasses and a baseball cap, and signed autographs for fans waiting outside the courtroom soon after the guilty plea hearing finished.

Chris Brown ordered to pay USD 13 million to housekeeper

The news comes only weeks after Brown was ordered to pay his housekeeper in another case, where one of his dogs at his Los Angeles home attacked the woman. Maria Avila was attacked by Hades, a Caucasian shepherd, in 2020, which the singer had reportedly kept as a guard dog at his Tarzana property. The incident left her with major injuries to her face and arm, requiring extensive medical treatment, including stitches and skin grafts.Rolling Stone also earlier reported that Brown fled the scene soon after the attack and left his other employees to care for Avila at that moment. USD 885,000 was also granted to Patricia Avila, her sister, who was also at the singer’s house at the time of the incident. The reports revealed at the time that Brown admitted the situation had “freaked” him out at the moment.Billboard reported a statement from Patricia Avila’s legal representative, which read, “After more than five years of litigating against Chris Brown, we are thrilled that we were able to get justice for our client, Patricia. We are so happy for her and her family after everything they went through on that horrible day.” Maria’s husband, Oscar Olivo, was also granted USD 50,000 in compensation by the court.Disclaimer: The information in this report is based on a legal hearing as reported by a third-party source.
