Parliament Update: Rajya Sabha Proceedings Continue as Lok Sabha Adjourned Amid Opposition Protest

In the Upper House, proceedings continued with legislative business, including a motion related to the appointment of members to a Joint Committee on the Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill, 2024 and the Union Territories Laws Amendment Bill, 2024. The motion was moved by Union Minister Dr. L. Murugan, seeking the Rajya Sabha’s approval for appointing two members from the House to the Joint Committee. The motion was adopted after the required parliamentary process. Meanwhile, attention remains focused on the situation in the Lok Sabha, where opposition MPs created disruptions during Question Hour. Opposition parties demanded immediate discussion on issues including alleged paper leaks and the recent police action during student protests. The Speaker appealed to members to allow Question Hour to continue and assured that discussions on various matters would be conducted according to parliamentary rules. The government has maintained that it is ready for discussions but insists that regular parliamentary procedures must be followed. Opposition leaders, however, are demanding that scheduled business be set aside and priority be given to the issues they have raised. With the Lok Sabha set to resume at noon, uncertainty remains over whether proceedings will run smoothly or face further disruptions. Both the government and opposition appear firm on their respective positions, making the next phase of the session crucial.
