Quote of the day by Usha Vance on motherhood.

Second Lady Usha Vance has recently welcomed her fourth child, Alec Neel Vance, with Vice President JD Vance. But Usha Vance spoke about the joys of motherhood on several occasions. In her Mother’s Day message this year, as she was expecting Alec, she issued a profound yet simple statement that summarized what becoming a mother meant to Vance.“It’s the greatest privilege of my life. There are so many exciting things that happen in life, but there is nothing more exciting than getting to see the world through the eyes of kids as they’re growing up. Everything is just more exciting with my children around, and everything is more meaningful. There’s virtually nothing that I do in a given day that means as much as seeing them learn something new, seeing them grow into being a better person, helping shape a future where they will be able to do the same things that I’m doing today,” Usha Vance said. The Vances are now parents to four children: Ewan, Vivek, Mirabel and Alec

On having a fourth child

Usha Vance has spoken extensively about motherhood, about embracing it for the 4th time after the Vances announced the pregnancy. “People have asked me if we’re going to have a fourth baby, and I’ve never closed the door on that. I grew up in a family of two, and I thought that was a great number. And then I had two kids, and I thought — I didn’t feel quite done, right? So I really wanted to have a third child,” Usha Vance said in an NBC interview.“We have our daughter, who’s amazing, and it was great. And so I just wasn’t sure. But as time passed, I realized that I was feeling more and more, kind of, excited about that possibility. And so if there was a chance, I should take it. I knew that I’d be happy if we only had three kids, and I knew that I’d be happy if we had four. And so here we are.”On another occasion, Usha Vance spoke about being a working mom earlier and now being the Second Lady and said: “The balancing act today is sometimes easier than it was when I was working full-time in the private sector because I have more control over my schedule and do not feel pulled in as many directions. That said, raising children in the public eye poses new challenges. While I certainly miss working, I am grateful that I have the time to ensure that our home life is as normal and stable as possible.First-generation American Usha Vance was born to immigrant parents in San Diego, California. Her father is a retired mechanical engineer who went on to become a lecturer at San Diego State University, while her mother is the provost of the University of California San Diego’s Sixth College and has a background in marine molecular biology. Usha has a younger sister, Shreya Chilukuri.
