Prince Harry wants more UK family visits with King Charles

Prince Harry to renew push for taxpayer-funded security, as he 'wants more UK family visits' with King Charles

Prince Harry is known for his role as a senior member of the British royal family and his humanitarian work with the Invictus Games Foundation. The Duke of Sussex relocated to the United States with his wife Meghan Markle and their two children in 2020, marking a significant departure from royal duties and UK-based life. Now, following a recent visit to the United Kingdom where he reunited with his family and King Charles, the Duke is reportedly determined to continue campaigning for taxpayer-funded security protection during his time in the country.According to The Mirror, Prince Harry “wants more UK family visits” and is set to campaign for taxpayer-funded security arrangements to make this possible. The Duke of Sussex had previously lost an appeal over the dismissal of his High Court claim against the Home Office following a decision by the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures to provide him with a reduced degree of security protection when in the country. However, following his recent visit to the UK for a series of Invictus Games events, Harry is reportedly determined to pursue the arrangements once again.

Prince Harry lobbies for security to enable family time with King CharlesThe Duke is reportedly set to lobby the Home Secretary for security, with sources suggesting he is looking to arrange further meetings with the King to allow him to spend more time with his grandchildren, who have hardly visited the UK since the Sussexes relocated to the US in 2020. The family reunited earlier this month as Harry, Meghan and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, met with the King and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House, a country estate west of London. However, the reunion was overshadowed by reports that an offer from the King to stay at Buckingham Palace had been “withdrawn at the last moment”. Buckingham Palace indicated the appropriate hospitality and staffing provisions were no longer available. But the decision reportedly meant Meghan and the couple’s children had to pull the plug on their plans to join the visit, and were only able to come later after flying in from Europe.

Prince Harry says family safety remains his top priority

Prince Harry argues children cannot feel secure without protectionThe Duke has previously argued his children cannot “feel at home” in the UK if it is “not possible to keep them safe” there, and that he had been “singled out” for “inferior treatment” with his safety, security and life “at stake”. His legal arguments centred on the wellbeing of his family and his desire to provide them with a safe environment during UK visits. But the Home Office, which is legally responsible for the committee’s decisions, opposed Harry’s appeal. Its lawyers told the court the decision was taken in a “unique set of circumstances” and that there was “no proper basis” for challenging it. He currently makes his own security arrangements when visiting the UK, which reportedly places considerable financial and logistical strain on his ability to travel.Prince Harry is set to return to the UK next year for the Invictus Games in Birmingham and is said to be hopeful his family will be able to accompany him during the event.
