Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke ended his indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar on Monday, even as the party’s agitation over alleged examination paper leaks intensified with its planned “Sansad Chalo” march.

Dipke had begun his fast on Sunday, shortly after Delhi Police intervened in activist Sonam Wangchuk’s 21-day hunger strike and shifted him from the Jantar Mantar protest site to Safdarjung Hospital.

Following the police action against Wangchuk, the youth-led outfit escalated its campaign, demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resignation and reaffirming its decision to march to Parliament on Monday despite restrictions imposed by the authorities.

Parliament March Met With Heavy Police Action

As the scheduled march began, protesters moved towards Parliament but encountered a massive security deployment across central Delhi.

According to the CJP, police resorted to a lathi-charge to stop demonstrators. Delhi Police, however, denied the allegation, maintaining that no such action had taken place.

As protesters advanced towards Parliament, where the Monsoon Session is currently underway, police later fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.

Authorities had earlier made it clear that permission had not been granted for the march and warned that any unauthorised procession towards Parliament would not be allowed.

Thousands Join Protest Despite Restrictions

Despite heavy rain and stringent security measures, protesters continued to gather at Jantar Mantar throughout the morning.

The CJP shared photographs and videos on social media showing large crowds at the protest site. In one post, the party declared, “Heavy rains and massive security, but nothing will stop the cockroaches today.”

Dipke also shared an image of the Constitution with the message, “Long live the Constitution.”

The party urged supporters to remain peaceful, even as several Delhi Metro stations were closed and many protesters were reportedly stopped from reaching Jantar Mantar.

“Please remain calm wherever you might be. Even if you’ve been stopped at certain points, remain calm and maintain peace. We will only win this with peace and love,” CJP spokesperson Saurav Das said in a message to supporters.

Sonam Wangchuk Continues Indefinite Fast

While Dipke ended his hunger strike, Sonam Wangchuk said he would continue his indefinite fast from Safdarjung Hospital.

The activist reiterated that he would not end his protest unless the government accepted accountability for the alleged failures in the education system or political leaders assured him that the issue would be raised during the Monsoon Session of Parliament.

Wangchuk’s continued hunger strike has become a key focal point of the wider agitation over the alleged examination irregularities, adding further momentum to the ongoing protests.
