Sunny Deol reveals that playing Hanuman in Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’ comes with a huge sense of responsibility. Speaking at a promotional event for the film at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on July 18, the actor shared that he has only completed a small part of his work so far, with a long road still ahead. The Delhi event marked an important moment in promoting the two-part epic. Shot for IMAX, the film’s first chapter is set to release in 2026, with the concluding part arriving in 2027.
Sunny Deol says he still has a long way to go
The actor told everyone that he had just started working on ‘Ramayana’ and that there was still a lot to do before he could really understand the role. “To tell you the truth, I have done only a little work on the film so far. I still have a long way to go,” he said. For Sunny, the film’s huge scale is just one part of the challenge. He said ‘Ramayana’ means a lot to people in India, which makes playing one of its most loved characters a bigger responsibility than a normal film role. He also thanked the makers for choosing him for the part, saying, “I am grateful that I received the opportunity to play Hanuman ji. I will make every possible effort to portray him in the right way.”Deol made it clear that this role isn’t a simple one. He pointed out that Hanuman can’t be defined by physical strength alone. The character embodies qualities that seem to sit at odds with one another: great power alongside humility, bravery paired with innocence, and force balanced with deep devotion. “Playing Hanuman ji is not easy,” Sunny said. “But I know I will enjoy it immensely. He is playful, innocent and powerful. He is loved by everyone, and above all, he is a devotee of Lord Ram.”
Sunny Deol seeks the audience’s blessings
The actor also admitted that public speaking isn’t something that comes easily to him. Once he finished talking about Hanuman, he confessed that facing such a big crowd left him a bit uneasy. Even so, he took the opportunity to ask the audience to support the team. “We need the blessings of all of you because we have taken on such a vast project,” he said. Sunny also voiced his belief that Ramayana would connect with viewers nationwide. “I firmly believe that every Indian will watch it,” he added.
