Tom Cruise is kicking off FIFA World Cup finals weekend in true Hollywood fashion, as he released a special promotional video for his upcoming film ‘Digger’.Showing off his football skills the actor appeared in a promo video, ahead of his appearance at the FIFA World Cup 2026 closing ceremony. Sharing the clip on his social media handles, Cruise wrote, “You like football, Maggie? DIGGER only in theaters October.”

The clip features the actor in full costume and prosthetic makeup as his character from Digger. Seated on an arm chair with a cat on the headrest, Cruise effortlessly juggles the football at his feet while singing, “Ole.” He wraps up the video by declaring, “Let’s f****** go!”

Tom Cruise to appear in FIFA World Cup closing ceremony

The promotional video arrives just days after FIFA confirmed that the ‘Top Gun’ star will make a special appearance during the FIFA World Cup 2026 closing ceremony. The star-studded event will take place ahead of the World Cup final at New York New Jersey Stadium on Sunday, July 19. Cruise will join an impressive lineup of global stars during the pre-match festivities, including Italian singer-songwriter Laura Pausini, Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls, British singer Robbie Williams and YouTube personality IShowSpeed. Actress and singer Jennifer Hudson is also set to perform a special rendition of the United States national anthem before kickoff. The closing ceremony is scheduled to begin 90 minutes before the final, at 1:30 p.m. local time.

Meanwhile, Cruise is gearing up for the release of ‘Digger’, directed by Alejandro G. Inarritu. The recently released trailer showcases the actor in a dramatically transformed appearance under heavy prosthetic makeup.According to the film’s official synopsis on IMDb, ‘Digger’ follows “the most powerful man in the world [who] embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s saviour before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.”‘Digger’ is slated to arrive in theatres nationwide on October 2.
