AR Murugadoss ends years of speculation on his political films with Vijay

'I didn't make 'Kaththi' or 'Sarkar' for Vijay Sir's politics,' AR Murugadoss ends years of speculation

Years after Kaththi and Sarkar became subjects of political discussions, director AR Murugadoss has finally addressed the long-standing speculation surrounding the films. Many believed the two Vijay starrers were designed to strengthen the actor’s political image long before he entered politics. However, Murugadoss has now firmly denied those claims, saying the films were never created with any political agenda. He stressed that both projects were written to tell meaningful stories that reflected social concerns, not to prepare Vijay for a future in public life.

AR Murugadoss clarifies on his political films with Vijay

Speaking in a YouTube chat with Sudhir Sreenivasan, AR Murugadoss made it clear that the scripts had nothing to do with Vijay’s political ambitions. “I did not write ‘Kaththi’ keeping Vijay sir’s political aspirations in mind. I did not make ‘Sarkar’ with that intention either,” he said. The director explained that the idea for Kaththi had been with him since the early stages of his career. “After ‘Ramana,’ I wanted to make another film that connected with society and carried powerful dialogues. Based on the situation at that time and Vijay Sir’s mindset, I shaped ‘Kaththi’ as a film completely different from ‘Thuppakki’,” he added. According to AR Murugadoss, the stories were inspired by the issues of the time rather than any future political plans.

Social themes, not political planning, shaped the films

AR Murugadoss also reflected on how ‘Ramana’ became a turning point in his filmmaking journey. The film inspired him to tell stories that had entertainment and strong social messages, a style he followed in his later films ‘Kaththi.’ ‘Thuppakki’ was an action entertainer, ‘Kaththi’ was about farmers and land rights and ‘Sarkar’ was about elections and governance. The director said these subjects are relevant to society and suit the stories I want to tell, not that they are linked to Vijay’s political future.

Past films find new meaning after Vijay’s political success

After his successful political journey, Vijay is now the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, and many viewers have started watching his old films with a political perspective. Murugadoss understands why people make those connections today, but says the films must be viewed in the context in which they were made. His clarification puts an end to years of speculation and reinforces that ‘Kaththi’ and ‘Sarkar’ were conceived as socially driven cinema. Years even after their release, the movies still remain a popular subject of discussion, proving the lasting effect of their theme and plot on people. Go to Source
