Faith Update: Puri’s Jagannath Rath Yatra Draws Ocean of Devotees as Sacred Journey Enters Day Two

The sacred city of Puri continues to witness an extraordinary display of faith as the world-renowned Jagannath Rath Yatra entered its second day, drawing lakhs of devotees from across India and abroad. The atmosphere remains filled with chants of “Jai Jagannath” as worshippers gather to catch a glimpse of Lord Jagannath, who traditionally comes out of the temple to bless devotees during the annual chariot festival. Unlike regular days when devotees visit the temple for darshan, the Rath Yatra offers a rare opportunity for Lord Jagannath, along with Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra, to travel through the city on grand chariots toward the Gundicha Temple. Thousands of devotees participate by pulling the massive wooden chariots, considering it a deeply auspicious act of devotion. Heavy rainfall and an overwhelming turnout on the opening day slowed the procession, leaving Lord Jagannath’s chariot short of its intended destination before sunset, in accordance with centuries-old traditions. Devotional singing, prayers, and rituals continued throughout the night as pilgrims transformed the entire Grand Road into an open place of worship. Despite the spiritual fervour, authorities remain on high alert following a tragic incident reported during the first day of the festival, where a 35-year-old devotee reportedly lost his life amid severe crowd congestion. Officials have strengthened crowd management and security arrangements for the second day’s procession as thousands continue to arrive in Puri. With devotional music, cultural performances, and uninterrupted worship continuing across the city, the Jagannath Rath Yatra once again reflects the enduring spiritual heritage of Odisha and remains one of the largest and most revered religious gatherings in the world.
