Jason Sanjay on rejecting Alphonse Puthren’s film offer

Jason Sanjay reveals why he rejected Alphonse Puthren’s film offer; Vijay’s son says directing was his priority

Jason Sanjay, son of actor Vijay, has revealed why he chose not to make his acting debut despite receiving an offer from acclaimed Malayalam filmmaker Alphonse Puthren years ago. As he prepares for the release of his directorial debut ‘Sigma’, Jason opened up on the decision that shaped his journey into the film industry. In a recent interview with Ananda Vikatan, Jason shared that acting was never part of his immediate plans. Instead, he was more interested in understanding filmmaking and eventually becoming a director. That interest ultimately led him behind the camera rather than in front of it.

Alphonse Puthren approached him at the age of 20

Jason recalled that Alphonse Puthren, best known for directing ‘Premam’, ‘Neram’, ‘Gold’, approached him with a film proposal when he was around 20 years old. At the time, Jason was still pursuing his studies and had not decided to enter the film industry professionally.According to Jason, the filmmaker had planned a coming-of-age story and contacted him after seeing one of his photographs. Although the offer came from a director he greatly admired, Jason felt he was not prepared to accept it.He explained that he politely declined the opportunity without even listening to the narration. Jason said he did not want to hear the complete story and later refuse the project, as he held Alphonse Puthren in high regard. Instead, he encouraged the team to look for someone better suited to the role.Despite declining the offer, Jason described the experience as a proud and memorable moment in his life.

Vijay had earlier spoken about his son’s career choice

Earlier Vijay had shared during the promotions of ‘Beast’ in 2022, about his son’s future. The ‘Jana Nayagan’ actor had made it clear that the decision would always rest with Jason.Vijay had said, “I really don’t know what’s on his mind. I don’t have any wishes, it’s all his interest. If he wants my support, he will have it.”He further added, “Some people have asked if he will act. Even then I will tell him about the happenings and ask him to take a call. However, he said he needs two years of time. Meanwhile, Premam-director Alphonse Puthren came to narrate a story and I thought it was for me but he told me that it was for my son. It was a good, boy next door story. But personally, I like the story and thought it would be nice if he takes up the project. When I told him, he still said he wants more time. Only he knows if he’ll be in front of camera or behind it. I’ll be happy with anything he takes up.”Jason is now set to make his debut as a filmmaker with ‘Sigma’, which stars Sundeep Kishan in the lead role. Go to Source
