The political landscape in Maharashtra is heating up over speculation that the Sharad Pawar-led NCP faction may support the NDA on the upcoming delimitation and women’s reservation bills. NCP leader Jayant Patil has denied any merger discussions, but reports suggest internal talks are ongoing. Supriya Sule has indicated that her party may consider supporting the government if its conditions regarding seat expansion and representation are addressed. The NDA is reportedly trying to gather enough numbers to pass the bills, with possible support from parties like DMK, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (Sharad Pawar faction). The BJP’s condition is reportedly that all NCP factions should merge before joining the NDA. Congress leader P. Chidambaram has alleged that the government is trying to win over opposition parties for support. Political analysts suggest Maharashtra’s alliances could undergo major changes if the NCP faction moves closer to the NDA.
