Watch: Sweden’s new health minister Elisabet Lann collapses; was holding live press briefing

.

Sweden’s newly appointed health minister, Elisabet Lann, collapsed onstage during a live press conference on Tuesday. The incident happened while Lann, 48, was taking questions alongside Swedish prime minister Ulf Kristersson and Christian Democrats party leader Ebba Busch. Footage shared online shows Lann slowly falling forward as another official spoke. She became unconscious and knocked over the translucent podium. Other politicians and journalists rushed to help her. Government security assisted her, and she was able to return to the conference shortly after. Lann told reporters she had fainted due to a “blood sugar drop.” “This was not exactly a normal Tuesday, and this is what can happen when you have a blood sugar drop,” she said. Lann’s fall came on her first day as minister for health. She took over after her predecessor, Acko Ankarberg Johansson, resigned on Monday. Before this role, Lann served as a municipal councillor in Gothenburg from 2019 and is a member of the Christian Democrats.
