Matt Damon wanted to work with Shekhar Kapur

Matt Damon wanted to work with Shekhar Kapur, reveals why he couldn't do ‘The Four Feathers’

Matt Damon revealed he wanted to work with Shekhar Kapur on ‘The Four Feathers’ (2002) but missed out, likely due to his Jason Bourne commitment. Speaking at ‘The Odyssey’ Mumbai event, he called it a “20-year-old debt” he still carries. He plays Odysseus in ‘The Odyssey’, alongside Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland and others.

Decades later, Hollywood star Matt Damon still looks back on a career opportunity he wishes had worked out: collaborating with celebrated filmmaker Shekhar Kapur on ‘The Four Feathers’, released in 2002. Speaking at ‘The Odyssey’ Mumbai event on Saturday, July 11, Damon revealed that Kapur had long been a director he admired and wanted to work with.

Asked to name an Indian filmmaker he’d love to work with, Matt pointed to Shekhar Kapur. “The filmmaker starting out that everyone wanted to collaborate with was Shekhar Kapur,” he said, adding that he was ‘really upset’ when he was unable to be part of ‘The Four Feathers’. He noted that his prior commitment to the Jason Bourne franchise was likely what kept him from taking up the role. “I think I was signed up for the Jason Bourne movie,” he said.

Despite missing out on that project, Damon made it clear his wish to collaborate with Kapur hasn’t faded. “I guess he’s always been on my list, and so I’d like to have another go. That’s like a 20-year-old sort of debt I’ve been carrying around in my body. That’s it,” he added.

Matt Damon’s role in ‘The Odyssey’

Based on Homer’s epic poem, ‘The Odyssey’ traces the long, treacherous voyage of Odysseus, the Greek king of Ithaca. Matt Damon takes on the role of Odysseus, with Anne Hathaway playing Penelope. The film’s star-studded cast also features Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya and Charlize Theron.
