Diljit gets told to talk to Donald Trump for US citizenship, here’s how he reacted

Diljit Dosanjh ignores question about his US citizenship with a joke, gets told to take help from Donald Trump to get a green card: 'I never ask anyone for favours, his daughter follows me'

A while ago, reports suggested that Diljit Dosanjh has US citizenship. Though, the singer, actor has never clarified on it. Questions surrounding Diljit Dosanjh’s reported US citizenship resurfaced during a recent Instagram Live session, but the actor-singer avoided giving a direct answer. Instead, he responded with humour when a fan suggested that he apply for a US Green Card while he was discussing the controversy over his film ‘Satluj’ being removed in India.Smiling at the comment, Diljit said, “I’ll take a card and colour it green. I’m not saying anything. Sab chhodke ye news ban jayegi (People will leave everything and make headlines out of this). It doesn’t work like that. The drama of the world will never end. But I believe everyone should be allowed to travel to any country without a visa. The whole world should become one. I am fine, but it isn’t possible like that, is it?”In another live interaction, a fan jokingly asked him to speak to US President Donald Trump and help everyone secure American citizenship.Diljit laughed off the request, saying, “What do you all think of me? I am just an artiste. How can I ask him to solve citizenship issues? His daughter follows me, but I have never spoken to her either. I never ask anyone for favours. If something is meant to happen, it happens. If it isn’t, then it isn’t.”The remarks come months after *The Indian Express* reported that Diljit became a US citizen in 2022 and has been travelling on an American passport since September 1 that year. According to the report, his last Indian passport was issued in Mumbai in 2018. It also claimed that his wife, Sandeep Kaur, is a US citizen and that, while acquiring American citizenship, Diljit listed a five-bedroom bungalow in an upscale California neighbourhood as his residence. The actor-singer has neither confirmed nor denied those claims publicly.A US Green Card grants Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR) status, allowing a person to live, work and study in the United States without requiring temporary visas or employer sponsorship. It can eventually lead to US citizenship after fulfilling residency and other eligibility requirements. Since American citizens do not need a Green Card, Diljit’s light-hearted response has only fuelled further speculation about his citizenship status. The Instagram Live sessions were primarily held to address the controversy surrounding ‘Satluj’, which was taken down from ZEE5 within 48 hours of its release in India. Before reaching the streaming platform, the film had spent nearly three years navigating certification hurdles with the censor board. During the interaction, Diljit urged audiences to watch the film, describing it as an important chapter in the history of Punjab and India. The film is based on the life of Jaswant Singh Khalra, the human rights activist who documented the alleged illegal cremation of thousands of unidentified bodies in and around Amritsar during the militancy era before he was abducted and killed.
