Witnesses told investigators Murphy allegedly damaged property inside the home he had rented before leaving in a hired vehicle. Reports from Thai media say he later offered the driver 1,000 baht to continue the trip, but the driver declined because of Murphy’s behavior. Investigators also allege that Murphy approached another vehicle, shouted, rolled on the roadway and eventually ran toward a nearby lake.A video reportedly recorded by a village employee showed Murphy entering the water before swimming farther from shore. Witnesses said he eventually appeared to struggle and disappeared beneath the surface. Rescue divers searched the lake, which is reported to be more than 10 meters deep, and recovered his body about 20 meters from the shoreline after roughly 30 minutes.Police said there were no visible signs of assault during the initial examination.
