The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces has reported that the Russian Federation conducted a large-scale aerial attack on the night of September 9–10. The incident prompted an immediate military response from Poland.

In an official statement, the Polish military confirmed the activation of all necessary defensive procedures. “Polish and allied aircraft are operating in our airspace, and ground-based air defence and radar reconnaissance systems have reached the highest state of readiness,” the statement read.

According to data from FlightRadar24, US F-35 fighter jets were observed operating near the Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport in southeastern Poland, a key logistics hub for NATO forces. The airport was reportedly closed temporarily overnight due to what was described as “unplanned military activity.”

Reuters reported that Ukraine’s Air Force issued a warning between Tuesday night and early Wednesday, stating that Russian drones had entered Polish airspace during operations targeting Ukraine. The report has drawn attention to heightened regional tensions.

Additionally, Defence24 reported that four Iranian-made Shahed drones allegedly entered Belarusian airspace during the same timeframe. These drones are believed to have been launched by Russian forces. The report notes that this information was sourced from unofficial Ukrainian channels.

In response to the incident, NATO allied forces have increased their aerial presence in the region. Italian early warning aircraft reportedly departed from Estonia and headed south, while a Dutch air tanker is currently operating within Polish airspace.

US Representative Joe Wilson confirmed the incident in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating that Russia had targeted NATO member Poland with Iranian Shahed drones. He described the incident as an “act of war” and thanked NATO allies for their swift response. The representative also called for sanctions and additional military support for Ukraine.

In his statement, Wilson reiterated comments attributed to Russian leadership, stating, “Russia knows no borders,” and added, “Free and prosperous nations will teach Russia about borders.”
