NEW DELHI: The BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit on Saturday approached governor Rajendra Arlekar, seeking action against two “private individuals” for allegedly attending a cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister C Joseph Vijay despite holding no official government position.State BJP chief Nainar Nagenthran identified the duo as John Arokiyasamy and Vishnu Reddy. They are the same men against whom the DMK has also lodged a police complaint, alleging that they attended official meetings and issued directions to government officials.”I have petitioned governor Arlekar to take appropriate action,” Nagenthran told reporters after meeting the governor along with Tamil Nadu BJP chief spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy and state in-charge Arvind Menon.According to a Lok Bhavan release, the BJP’s memorandum alleged that the two individuals attended the recently concluded Tamil Nadu cabinet meeting alongside ministers, calling it an “illegal act and a violation of the oath of secrecy.”The BJP delegation “strongly condemned” the alleged transgression and urged the governor to initiate appropriate legal action, the release said. The memorandum also requested Governor Arlekar to advise Chief Minister Vijay to ensure that such incidents are not repeated. Meanwhile, the ruling TVK has maintained that both Arokiyasamy and Reddy have been appointed as special advisers to the chief minister and are therefore no longer private individuals.According to the DMK’s police complaint, both men are residents of Andhra Pradesh.(With PTI inputs)
