Wicked Sunny: Akshay and Priyadarshan lock title for ninth film

'Wicked Sunny': Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan lock title for their ninth film after 'Bhooth Bangla' and 'Haiwaan'

Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan’s ninth film together has been titled ‘Wicked Sunny’, inspired by a popular theme from Mujhse Shaadi Karogi. Produced by Ramesh Taurani’s Tips Films, the comic thriller is written by Priyadarshan and Rohan Shankar. Filming begins in December, ahead of their eighth film Haiwaan’s September 2026 release.

Earlier, in April 2025, reports emerged about Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan coming together for a third time, after previously working on ‘Bhooth Bangla’ and ‘Haiwaan’. Ramesh Taurani’s Tips Films is producing the venture. Now, in a new update, it’s being reported that the film has finally locked its title.

Why the title ‘Wicked Sunny’ was chosen

According to Bollywood Hungama, the film has been titled ‘Wicked Sunny’. The makers believe that the title does complete justice to the film’s zone as well as its lead character. Moreover, ‘Wicked Sunny’ has strong recall value. It was the name of the theme played during Akshay Kumar’s scenes in ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi’ (2004). The theme remains extremely catchy and popular even 22 years after the film’s release. ‘Wicked Sunny’ will feature Akshay in a wacky comic avatar, distinctly different from the characters he has played in recent comic capers such as ‘Bhooth Bangla’ and ‘Welcome To The Jungle’. Fans are going to have a blast watching Akshay go all-out. Moreover, the title is only going to further enhance the hype surrounding the film.

Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan’s collaboration history

So far, Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan have joined forces on seven films: ‘Hera Pheri’ (2000), ‘Garam Masala’ (2005), ‘Bhagam Bhag’ (2006), ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ (2007), ‘De Dana Dan’ (2009), ‘Khatta Meetha’ (2010), and ‘Bhooth Bangla’. Their upcoming film ‘Haiwaan’ will mark their eighth collaboration, with ‘Wicked Sunny’ set to be their ninth. ‘Haiwaan’, which also stars Saif Ali Khan, is slated to hit theatres on September 11, 2026.

‘Wicked Sunny’ writers and shooting schedule

According to a recent Mid-Day report, ‘Wicked Sunny’ is a comic thriller penned by Priyadarshan alongside Rohan Shankar, the same duo behind ‘Bhooth Bangla’. The report also noted that filming is expected to begin this December.
