Ashneer says pay of B’wood stars should depend on film’s success

Ashneer Grover calls out Bollywood stars, says their pay should depend on film's success: 'Do you think it is working in your name?'

Ashneer Grover, known for his bluntness on Shark Tank India, has criticized Bollywood stars for demanding huge upfront fees, even when their films underperform. He argues that actors are overvalued compared to startup founders and should instead share in the profits, demonstrating faith in their stardom by aligning their earnings with a film’s success.

Ashneer Grover, of Shark Tank fame, recently called out Bollywood stars. He said actors should be confident in their stardom and only take big paychecks if their films actually make money, instead of asking producers for huge salaries like Rs 100 crore upfront.

Stars are overvalued compared to start-ups

In a conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Ashneer Grover called Bollywood stars overvalued compared to start-up founders. He questioned why actors charge huge fees when their films may not earn much, suggesting they should take a share of the profits instead. He expressed surprise at superstars taking Rs 40 crore, Rs 80 crore, or even Rs 100 crore, while some films end up making just Rs 20 crore.

Actors should have faith in their stardom

Ashneer said that seeing films earn so little makes him question whether stars truly believe in their own stardom. He feels actors should have faith in themselves and be willing to earn only when the film makes money. He expressed surprise that even big stars still rely on huge fixed salaries instead of taking a share of profits. Recently, discussions about Bollywood stars charging massive fees have been gaining a lot of attention.Ashneer is currently hosting a new reality show called Rise and Fall on an OTT platform. He reportedly didn’t return to Shark Tank India after the first season, saying he had asked for a higher fee but the makers refused to negotiate. The show has continued for four seasons with other judges. Meanwhile, Ashneer has also hinted that a biopic based on his life is in the works.
