Kjell Nilsson passed away in Australia at 76 after battling a severe kidney disease for the past 4 years. The news was shared online through his Facebook post, which confirmed that the actor had passed away peacefully and was surrounded by his family members.The statement read, “It was a long and painful journey, filled with countless battles to overcome, including the gradual loss of his bodily autonomy. This past Sunday, after much consideration, Kjell decided to take back control over his pain and his body by stopping dialysis. On Thursday, Torsdag (Thor’s Day), July 2, Kjell passed away peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his sons. The days leading up to his passing were filled with joy, gratitude, peace, and acceptance. He did it his way.”His family also shared more information about his journey in their post and talked about how he had managed to defy all odds. They revealed that after getting his diagnosis in 2022, the actor had been told that he would not be able to survive till Christmas; however, he had pulled through everything and had survived. They also wrote, “He proved the experts wrong until he was strong enough to ‘JUST WALK AWAY.’ Even in his final days, many doctors could not fully explain how he had done it. Some referred to him as a walking miracle. But it wasn’t a miracle. It was unrelenting determination, self-belief, and extraordinary willpower.”They concluded the post by writing, “Kjell lived a colourful life on his own terms, with unwavering conviction, an adventurous heart, and a spirit that refused to surrender.”

Who was Kjell Nilsson?

Born on December 19, 1949, in Gothenburg, Sweden, Nilsson was a professional weightlifter who later transitioned to acting. In the 1980s, he moved to Australia to focus on his professional career as a weightlifter and train for the Moscow Olympics. Soon after, in 1981, he landed his debut role in ‘Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior’ and played the role of the villain Lord Humungus.
