Widespread monsoon showers have triggered severe flooding and disruption across several districts of Gujarat, exposing major gaps in urban drainage and civic preparedness. Continuous heavy rainfall has inundated key urban and rural areas, bringing daily life to a standstill and severely affecting transportation, housing, and local infrastructure. In Surat, intense rainfall led to massive waterlogging on National Highway 48 near Mangrol, forcing temporary suspension of traffic on the busy Mumbai–Ahmedabad route. Vehicles were stranded as knee-deep water accumulated on the highway, highlighting drainage system failures along one of the state’s most important transport corridors. Junagadh has witnessed flood-like conditions in low-lying areas, prompting the deployment of NDRF teams for rescue and relief operations. Several neighborhoods remain submerged as rainwater continues to accumulate, making evacuation and movement extremely difficult for residents. In Valsad, relentless downpours have turned residential colonies into water pools, with floodwater entering homes and damaging household belongings. Residents reported that essential items had to be moved to higher surfaces such as beds and shelves to prevent damage. Locals have blamed poor drainage maintenance and inadequate municipal response for recurring flooding issues. Mehsana also recorded nearly 8 inches of rainfall within a short span, resulting in widespread urban flooding and public inconvenience. Residents have expressed frustration, stating that such conditions repeat every monsoon season without long-term solutions. Across multiple locations, citizens have raised concerns about neglected drainage systems, blocked water outlets, and unchecked urban construction that obstructs natural water flow. Many communities claim that despite repeated complaints over the years, municipal action has remained limited to temporary fixes. The situation remains critical as the weather department has forecast the possibility of further heavy rainfall, raising fears of worsening flood conditions in already affected areas.
