‘Alpha’ ears Rs 1.52 crore in advance bookings

'Alpha' advance booking report Day 1: Alia Bhatt starrer records Rs 1.52 crore in pre-sales; spy film eyes double-digit opening

The clock is finally ticking down to the release of Alia Bhatt’s ‘Alpha’ this Friday. The spy action film, which is the latest instalment in Yash Raj Films’ Spy Universe, opened its advance bookings and the numbers show good momentum ahead of its theatrical release.

‘Alpha’ advance box office report

According to the early advance booking numbers on Sacnilk, ‘Alpha’ has raked in an estimated Rs 41.05 lakh for its opening day across 10,293 Hindi (2D) shows in India. With the inclusion of blocked seats, the film’s estimated first-day advance booking currently stands at Rs 1.52 crore.Among the key markets, Maharashtra has emerged as the strongest-performing territory with advance bookings worth Rs 34.76 lakh, including blocked seats. It is closely followed by Delhi, which has registered Rs 34.35 lakh, while Gujarat has contributed Rs 10.66 lakh to the film’s pre-release collections.

‘Alpha’ tracks Rs 7–8 crore opening

Based on current trends reported by Sacnilk early estimates suggest that Alpha is headed for an opening day collection in the range of Rs 7–8 crore net at the Indian box office. While the numbers indicate a modest start for a franchise film, there is room for spot bookings. Further, positive audience reviews could also push the film beyond expectations. The biggest question heading into the weekend is whether ‘Alpha’ can score a double-digit opening.

A crucial film for the YRF Spy Universe

‘Alpha’ marks the first female-led action film in the YRF Spy Universe. Over the years, the cinematic universe has expanded with blockbusters such as ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’, ‘War’ and ‘Pathaan’, lead by Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Shah Rukh Khan, respectively. However, ‘Alpha’ arrived in theatres after a relatively underwhelming performance of ‘War 2’, which has somewhat slowed the momentum of the otherwise successful spy franchise. The Hindi action film will enjoy a solo release this weekend, with only minimal competition from the kids animated film ‘Minions and Monsters’, the next instalment in the comedy ‘Minions’ spin-off franchise.
