SS Rajamouli will be returning to the sets of his upcoming film ‘Varanasi’ after taking a short break. The director recently attended special screenings of his films in France where he was honoured at the Cinémathèque Française in Paris. If the latest buzz should be believed, the ace filmmaker is set to begin filming one of the biggest war sequences of the film.According to a report by Mid-day, SS Rajamouli is about to start shooting from July 7 in Hyderabad for the Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran starrer.

Massive war scene planned on a grand scale

Interestingly, Mahesh Babu will take part in the shoot along with around 3,500 junior artistes. The makers have reportedly been preparing for this sequence for several weeks now. The war episode is said to be one of the biggest scenes ever planned by the ‘Baahubali’ director for several weeks. What will be filmed on the set is only the beginning. The reports further suggest that thousands of junior artists will later be multiplied using visual effects. The final version will show an army that is much larger than what was actually filmed. Around 50,000 vanars are expected to appear on screen, making it one of the biggest battle scenes attempted in Indian cinema. Interestingly, it has also been revealed earlier that Mahesh Babu will appear as Lord Rama in one of the film’s important scenes.

SS Rajamouli reveals what the film will offer

During the screening event in France, Rajamouli spoke about the kind of experience ‘Varanasi’ will give to the audience. He said, “You are going to experience the cold and ice of Antarctica. The gods of Ramayana, the natural disasters and fantastic elements. That’s the experience you are going to have, but at the core of all this is the emotions of father and son. All this makes Varanasi for you.”The film is said to be a mythological action adventure that follows the hero’s journey across different timelines.

Cast of ‘Varanasi’

Mahesh Babu plays the role of Rudhra in the film. Priyanka Chopra Jonas will be seen as Mandakini, while Prithviraj Sukumaran plays Kumbha. The film also marks Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ return to Indian cinema after an eight-year gap.‘Varanasi’ is scheduled to release in theatres worldwide on April 7, 2027.
