Kristen Stewart, Alia Shawkat join hands for ‘The Wrong Girls’

Kristen Stewart, Alia Shawkat in ‘The Wrong Girls’: Dylan Meyer teases new film; ‘It's a love letter to wayward chaotic women’

Dylan Meyer teases upcoming project ‘The Wrong Girls’ and shares how the film came to be.

Actresses Kristen Stewart and Alia Shawkat, along with director Dylan Meyer, are collaborating on a brand new project titled ‘The Wrong Girls’. The ‘Twilight Saga’ actress and the ‘Arrested Development’ star are starring in the upcoming comedy series revolving around mistaken identity, which leads them down an adventurous, yet dangerous road of events.

Dylan Meyer talks about working on ‘The Wrong Girls’

Director Dylan Meyer, in conversation with Entertainment Weekly, opened up about her feature debut and her experience making it. She stated, “Frankie and Molly are codependent boneheads who have spent the last 10 years blissfully in a fog of weed smoke, co-signing each other’s bad choices and screening adulthood’s increasingly insistent calls.”‘The Wrong Girls’ has been in the works for a while now, with Stewart serving as one of the writers. The actress also recently made her directorial debut with the film, ‘The Chronology of Water.’While talking about how the film came to fruition, Meyer added that “The Wrong Girls was born from my relationship with my best friend and producing partner Maggie McLean, the babe I couldn’t do anything without.” She also added that “It’s a love letter to wayward chaotic women and the essential platonic partnerships that prop them up. The Wrong Girls may feature giant squids, Danish hitmen, talking cats, and supernatural abilities, but the emotional story and stakes are pure memoir. “Stewart had also opened up about the projects and how she hopes that people like the quirky comedy. While talking to Interview magazine in 2023, the actress had first teased the project, and said, “Me and Dylan are writing a movie. It’s a stoner girl comedy, and it’s really stupid. I think you’ll like it.”For context, Meyer and Stewart have been together for seven years now. The two also tied the knot officially in April 2025.

Plot of ‘The Wrong Girls’

The plot revolves around two aimless young women who are into drugs and come across an experimental drug. After consuming it, however, the two of them develop telepathic abilities with each other and their cats. Because of a mistaken identity, the duo are thrust into a world of danger as a dangerous rival is also in pursuit of the same drugs they have.Along with Stewart and Shawkat, the film also stars names like Seth Rogen, Geena Davis, LaKeith Stanfield, Kumail Nanjiani, Zack Fox, and Tony Hale. It is scheduled to be released on August 14, 2026. Go to Source
