Suriya’s blockbuster ‘Karuppu’ misses record milestone in Tamil Nadu

'Karuppu' lifetime box office collection: Suriya's blockbuster film misses record milestone in Tamil Nadu

‘Karuppu,’ starring Suriya and directed by RJ Balaji, has wrapped up its run in theatres in Tamil Nadu. This action entertainer has been one of the year’s most successful films because it made a great impact right from its release day. The film’s success also marked a major comeback for Suriya, giving the actor one of the biggest commercial hits of his career after a long gap.

‘Karuppu’ finishes with a massive Rs 191 crore gross in Tamil Nadu

Seven weeks after its release, the makers have officially announced the film’s final Tamil Nadu box office collection. According to the official announcement from the Tamil Nadu distributor Sakthi Film Factory, ‘Karuppu’ grossed Rs 191 crore in the state, making it one of the highest-grossing Tamil films in the region. The film showed remarkable consistency throughout its run, collecting Rs 60 crore in its first three days, Rs 100 crore within its opening week, Rs 150 crore in just 13 days, and Rs 175 crore by its 20th day. It has now added another Rs 16 crore to close its Tamil Nadu theatrical business at Rs 191 crore, failing to reach the 200 crore mark, which would have been a first for a Suriya film.

Strong word of mouth powered the film’s long box office run

Released on May 15, ‘Karuppu’ has been well-received by both the family audience and fans, making it run longer in theaters. Still, despite its release on the OTT platform on June 12, ‘Karuppu’ attracted audiences in some theaters. It was the result of good reviews, repeated viewings, and high weekend box office earnings.

Suriya and RJ Balaji deliver one of the year’s biggest hits

Directed by RJ Balaji, the movie ‘Karuppu’ stars Suriya and Trisha as the lead actors, while Sai Abhyankkar composed the background score. Previously, the movie had already made Rs 340 crore across the globe, and the Rs 191 crore collected from Tamil Nadu is another indicator of its extraordinary theatrical run. The success of this movie has certainly helped build the box office record for Suriya and his entire team.
