According to the official announcement from the Tamil Nadu distributor Sakthi Film Factory, ‘Karuppu’ grossed Rs 191 crore in the state, making it one of the highest-grossing Tamil films in the region. The film showed remarkable consistency throughout its run, collecting Rs 60 crore in its first three days, Rs 100 crore within its opening week, Rs 150 crore in just 13 days, and Rs 175 crore by its 20th day. It has now added another Rs 16 crore to close its Tamil Nadu theatrical business at Rs 191 crore, failing to reach the 200 crore mark, which would have been a first for a Suriya film.
Strong word of mouth powered the film’s long box office run
Released on May 15, ‘Karuppu’ has been well-received by both the family audience and fans, making it run longer in theaters. Still, despite its release on the OTT platform on June 12, ‘Karuppu’ attracted audiences in some theaters. It was the result of good reviews, repeated viewings, and high weekend box office earnings.
