Veeru Devgn’s dream of seeing Ajay Devgn become a hero

The throwback clip captures Veeru Devgn reflecting on his own aspirations and how they eventually transformed into a dream for his son. Speaking in the interview, he recalled, “Since the day he was born, I had a feeling that he would definitely become an actor. I was also interested in becoming an actor. When I saw that I am not worthy of it, I thought let’s see what happens next. Since then I had a feeling that I should make him a hero.” The video also offers rare behind-the-scenes moments of Veeru Devgn training and guiding Ajay through action sequences on film sets, highlighting the strong bond they shared both as father and son and as mentor and protégé.

A stunt legend who shaped Bollywood

Born as Virender Devgan, Veeru Devgn carved a remarkable legacy as one of Hindi cinema’s most celebrated action directors and stunt choreographers. Across several decades, he designed memorable action sequences for films such as ‘Roti Kapada Aur Makaan’, ‘Mr Natwarlal’, ‘Kranti’, ‘Prem Rog’, ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’, ‘Aaj Ka Arjun’, ‘Phool Aur Kaante’ and ‘Jigar’. His innovative stunt work helped define the action genre in Bollywood, earning him immense respect across the industry and making him one of the most sought-after action directors of his time.

Director behind ‘Hindustan Ki Kasam’

Apart from choreographing action, Veeru Devgn also stepped into filmmaking. In 1999, he directed ‘Hindustan Ki Kasam’, a patriotic drama featuring Ajay Devgn, Amitabh Bachchan, Manisha Koirala and Sushmita Sen in pivotal roles. The film marked an important chapter in his career, showcasing his abilities beyond stunt direction.

Remembering Veeru Devgn’s legacy

Veeru Devgn passed away on May 27, 2019, in Mumbai at the age of 84. Reports at the time stated that he had been battling health issues and was hospitalised after experiencing breathing difficulties. He later suffered a cardiac arrest.Years after his passing, his contribution to Indian cinema continues to be celebrated.
