NEW DELHI: A 10-year-old girl was allegedly snatched from her family that was sleeping on a pavement in south Delhi, sexually assaulted and murdered by a cab driver early Monday morning, reports Abhay.Police said the accused raped the minor inside his cab at Mandi road in south Delhi. He then strangled her to death and bludgeoned the body in a bid to disfigure it. The body, hidden under stones in a forested area on Faridabad-Gurgaon road, was recovered in the evening.The suspect, Basu Kumar Singh (25), is a married man with two children and has a criminal history, including two murder attempts. What began as a 5am call to the cops about the kidnapping rapidly escalated into a fast-paced manhunt, culminating in the arrest of the accused, who allegedly confessed to the ghastly crime. He was produced in court and was granted police custody.
Victim Sleeping On City Footpath Forced Into Cab
The crime took a dramatic turn on Tuesday evening when the accused was shot and wounded by cops after he allegedly snatched a weapon in an escape attempt during a crime scene reconstruction.”Her father told us that the family was sleeping on a footpath when his elder daughter was taken away in a car, possibly a cab,” a police officer said, adding that a kidnapping case was registered. Deputy commissioner of police (south) Anant Mittal constituted a team to crack the case, and the accused was apprehended within seven hours of the incident.After analysing CCTV footage and contacting cab aggregators, police identified the vehicle and traced the accused. He was later apprehended from west Delhi’s Vikaspuri around noon, after completing a ride with a passenger.During interrogation, Singh initially denied he had committed the crime. Confronted with evidence, he admitted to taking the girl in his cab but claimed that he had later dropped her on Mandi Road.As the interrogation continued, he finally confessed to killing the minor after raping her at an isolated place and then dumping the body. Cops recovered the body that had injuries on face and head, around 4.30pm.

He told police that he had come to CDR Chowk to pick up a passenger when he spotted the girl and allegedly abducted her. “After sexually assaulting her, he claimed that he strangled her and then hit her with stones before dumping the body in a forested area near the Gurgaon border,” an officer said.Singh’s wife and two kids live in Bihar. Police learnt that he had a criminal background at his native place. He was linked to at least three cab aggregators.At around 8.30pm, the accused was taken to Mandi village for crime scene reconstruction. While cops were asking him to identify where he had parked the car, he allegedly snatched a pistol and fired a round at the team, police claimed.
