’The date has been fixed’: When Samantha Ruth Prabhu opened up about planning motherhood with Naga Chaitanya

Samantha Ruth Prabhu has been making headlines for multiple reasons lately. While her latest release ‘Maa Inti Bangaaram’ has been enjoying a positive response, the actor has also found herself at the centre of fresh speculation regarding pregnancy. The rumours gained traction after videos from a recent celebration with her husband, filmmaker Raj Nidimoru, surfaced online. Although the couple has remained silent on the matter, the discussion has prompted fans to revisit some of Samantha’s earlier comments about becoming a mother.

Samantha once opened up about family planning

As stated by SCREEN, years before her current marriage, Samantha had spoken candidly about her hopes of starting a family. In 2018, shortly after tying the knot with actor Naga Chaitanya, she was repeatedly asked about motherhood and future plans. During one such interaction, the actress revealed that she and Chaitanya had already discussed a timeline for welcoming their first child.Addressing the topic with humour, Samantha said, “The date has been fixed! Like, as if that’s going to happen according to the date we have fixed! But Chay (Naga Chaitanya) seems to be certain that it will happen on the assigned date!” She further added, “But we have definitely fixed the timeline as to when we want to have a baby.” During the same conversation, Samantha explained that having a child would significantly alter her professional priorities. The actress admitted that she envisioned devoting herself completely to motherhood during the early years of her child’s life.“When I have a child, that child is going to be my universe. I had the greatest respect for working mothers. My childhood was not very rosy. For all adults, who haven’t had a very rosy childhood, the first thing they will tell you is that they want to give their child everything that they did not have. That’s something that has stuck with me. So I think the first few years after I have a child, I would not be anywhere. That child will be everything for me,” she shared.

‘Shaakuntalam’ was meant to be her last film before a break

A few years later, during the promotions of ‘Shaakuntalam’, producer Neelima Guna recalled a conversation that shed more light on Samantha’s plans at the time. According to her, the actress had requested that filming be completed within a specific schedule because she intended to focus on family life afterward.Neelima revealed, “Last year itself, when my father director Gunasekhar garu and I approached Samantha for Shaakuntalam, she loved the story and was very excited by it, but she told us that if she were to accept the role, the shooting should be completed by maximum July/August this year. She informed me that she was planning to start a family and that she wants to become a mother and that it would be her priority.”The producer further explained that Samantha had initially viewed ‘Shaakuntalam’ as her final project before taking an extended break from acting. The team reportedly adjusted their schedules to accommodate her plans.“As soon as she heard that, she was very happy and onboard with this. She told me that this would be her last film and that after this, she wants to take a long break and have children, plan her family. Through the schedules also, we never took a break since we wanted to accommodate this request from her side,” Neelima added. However, life unfolded differently. Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Naga Chaitanya parted ways in 2021 after four years of marriage. Chaitanya later married actress Sobhita Dhulipala, while Samantha found love again and married filmmaker Raj Nidimoru in December 2025. As conversations around her personal life continue to make headlines, her old remarks offer an interesting glimpse into a chapter of her life when motherhood was already a carefully considered part of her future plans.
