Rukmini Vasanth deepfake case: Three arrested in Bengaluru over AI-generated fake content; Investigation widens

A major update has come regarding the deep fake case as the Bengaluru Cyber Crime Police have arrested three individuals. For the unversed, this is in connection with the creation and circulation of AI-generated content involving ‘Kantara’ actor Rukmini Vasanth.Authorities initiated action after tracing the spread of fabricated images and videos that allegedly portrayed the actor in misleading scenarios.Reports from India Today says that the officials confirmed that the accused were taken into custody following a detailed investigation into the online distribution network of the content. Reportedly, the police stated that the materials were created using artificial intelligence tools.

Digital evidence seized during investigation

Reportedly, cybercrime officials seized three mobile phones from the accused. These devices are currently under forensic examination to recover digital evidence related to the creation and circulation of the manipulated content. The investigation team is working to identify whether more individuals were involved. Officials have indicated that the probe is still in its early stages. Further arrests are not ruled out as the inquiry progresses.

Complaint filed after fake images go viral

The case began after Rukmini Vasanth filed a cybercrime complaint. The complaint followed the circulation of AI-generated images that falsely depicted her in a swim suit. The actor clarified that the visuals were completely fabricated and had no connection to her real identity.According to reports, the arrested individuals were produced before a judicial magistrate and later remanded to custody. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).The issue first emerged in May when similar AI-generated visuals began circulating online.

‘Kantara’ actor’s strong public response on X

Following the controversy, Rukmini Vasanth issued a public statement on her X account. She urged people not to engage with or spread the manipulated content.”My team and I have come across certain AI-generated images being circulated online claiming to be me. I want to state clearly that these images are entirely fake and fabricated. The creation and circulation of such manipulated content is deeply irresponsible and a serious violation of privacy,” she wrote. She further added, “We are taking this matter seriously and initiating the necessary legal and cybercrime action against those involved in creating and spreading these images. Requesting everyone to refrain from sharing or engaging with such content,” she added. On the work front, Rukmini Vasanth will be next seen in Yash’s ‘Toxic’.
