Meghan Markle and Prince Harry plan UK family return

Prince Harry says 'It would be nice to reconcile' ahead of UK trip with Meghan Markle and children

The current royal grapevine suggests that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are preparing to bring their family to the U.K. for the first time in four years. Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, are expected to accompany their parents to Prince Harry’s home country in July for a significant family visit.According to the BBC, the visit is planned to coincide with the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, an adaptive sporting competition for service personnel and veterans that Prince Harry created in 2014. This marks a significant moment for the family, as the couple had stepped back from their royal roles in the U.K. in 2020, relocating to California, where Lilibet was born in 2021.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s last UK visit

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle last travelled to the U.K. with their children in June 2022 for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee festivities. While Archie and Lilibet did not attend any of the official Jubilee events, the couple participated in Trooping the Colour and a thanksgiving service in honour of the Queen at St. Paul’s Cathedral. During that trip, they celebrated Lilibet’s first birthday with a “casual, intimate backyard picnic” at their former home of Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.

Meghan Markle’s absence from the U.K. since 2022

While Prince Harry returned to his home country solo on several occasions in recent years, Meghan had not returned to the U.K. since September 2022. The couple had been visiting England for a series of charity events when Queen Elizabeth died, and they extended their stay to attend her funeral and the surrounding events.

The security concerns that have complicated visits

Prince Harry has long stressed he does not feel safe bringing his family to the U.K. since they were stripped of their state-funded security upon stepping back from their royal roles. He has continually sought to have his police protection restored. In a statement to the High Court in London, he explained the significance of security for his children’s sense of belonging. “The U.K. is my home. The U.K. is central to the heritage of my children and a place I want them to feel at home as much as where they live at the moment in the United States,” he said. “That cannot happen if there is no possibility to keep them safe when they are on U.K. soil.”He continued, “I can’t put my wife in danger like that, and given my experiences in life, I’m reluctant to unnecessarily put myself in harm’s way too.”

Prince Harry’s desire for reconciliation with King Charles

The security issue has remained a point of contention in the ongoing rift between Prince Harry and the rest of his family. Despite these challenges, the Prince expressed his desire to move forward. “I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore,” he told the BBC. “Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has. He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff, but it would be nice to reconcile.”He appeared to be referring to King Charles’ cancer diagnosis, revealed in 2024. The father and son had most recently reunited on September 10, 2025, at Clarence House in London, where they held a private 55-minute conversation marking their first in-person meeting in 19 months. That meeting had taken place while Prince Harry was in the U.K. for the Wellchild Awards and Invictus Games events. With the planned July visit on the horizon, it remains to be seen whether the trip will provide further opportunities for family reconciliation while the Duke and Duchess focus on supporting the Invictus Games milestone.
