What is ‘Aashaan’ about?

The narrative follows Anandan, a visual effects technician who arrives in Kochi hoping to establish himself in the film industry. During his search for a suitable shooting location for a proposed superstar film, he discovers an apartment complex that appears ideal for the project. To gain access to the property, Anandan makes a promise to an elderly resident named Aashaan. He offers the senior cinephile an opportunity to appear in the film. What follows is an emotional and often humorous journey involving two dreamers from different generations.

Critical response to the film

Reviewing the film, ETimes wrote, “Aashaan is a meta drama that unfolds within the cluttered, chaotic world of filmmaking. Centred on two cinephiles from different generations, the film explores the longing to belong to cinema and the fragile hopes that sustain those waiting on its margins. Set largely inside an apartment complex that doubles as a film location, the narrative mirrors the disorder of the industry itself, packed with ambition, humour, frustration and quiet heartbreak. Messy and overextended at times, Aashaan ultimately works as a sincere, if uneven, reflection on what it means to keep believing in cinema even when cinema does not always believe back.”The film also features Joemon Jyothir, Shobi Thilakan, Madan Gowri and Bibin Perumpally in key roles.
