Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President Donald Trump are scheduled to hold a crucial bilateral meeting in Evian, France, after a gap of nearly 16 months. The talks, expected to begin around 6:00 PM IST, will focus on the proposed India-U.S. trade deal, the evolving situation in West Asia, energy security, and strengthening strategic ties between the two nations. The Strait of Hormuz crisis and regional stability are also expected to feature prominently in the discussions. Ahead of the meeting, Modi and Trump shared a warm interaction during the G7 Summit, reflecting the close rapport between the two leaders. Addressing the summit, Prime Minister Modi stressed that the world is facing a crisis of trust rather than a shortage of resources. Quoting former U.S. President Ronald Reagan’s “Trust but Verify” principle, he called for a rules-based global order and emphasized that lasting peace can only be achieved through dialogue and diplomacy. Modi also held bilateral meetings with leaders of Canada, the UK, and the UAE.
