Indian student battles for life in US after road accident; minor driver rammed into his vehicle in Alabama

Indian student Sai Teja battles for life after massive road accident in Alabama.

27-year-old Indian student Sai Teja has been fighting for his life after he received grave injuries in a car accident in Montgomery, Alabama. According to reports, a minor driver rammed into Teja’s car when he was returning from a friend’s graduation ceremony. His friend Akhil, who was also in the car and suffered minor injuries, set up a fundraiser to help Teja’s family tide over the difficult situation. The crash left Sai Teja with a severe brain injury, a fractured jaw, and a fractured left leg, and he is in the ICU in an unconscious state at Baptist Medical Center South in Alabama. Originally from Hyderabad, Sai came to the US on a student visa and recently completed his master’s from New England University. He was looking for a job and he did not have any insurance in the US.”Doctors have explained that recovery from such severe injuries will be a long and uncertain journey. Even after he regains consciousness, he is expected to need extensive rehabilitation, including neurological care, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and ongoing medical treatment for many months, possibly a year or longer,” Akhil wrote for the fundraiser. “Saiteja is an international student in the United States with dreams and aspirations for his future. Unfortunately, his father and brother are currently in India and are unable to be by his side. A small group of family members and close friends in the U.S. are working together to support him and coordinate his care during this difficult time,” the fundraiser noted, seeking help for hospital and medical expenses, rehabilitation and therapy costs, specialized medical equipment and care, transportation and recovery-related expenses and long-term treatment needs.
