Rohini: ‘Raghuvaran never supported my film career’

'Raghuvaran never supported my film career,' Rohini BREAKS the silence on her career break

Veteran actress Rohini recently opened up about her late ex-husband Raghuvaran and the struggles she went through during their marriage. Indian cinema has seen many memorable actors, and Raghuvaran is definitely one of them. He is famed for his powerful performances in films across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi cinema. While his on-screen legacy continues to be celebrated, Rohini shared some personal experiences from their years together and explained how those years affected her professional life.

Why Rohini stepped away from films after marriage

During a recent interview, Rohini revealed that Raghuvaran was not supportive of her continuing her acting career after marriage. According to her, he preferred that she focus on family life instead. “Raghuvaran never supported my film career. He expected me to be a housewife,” she said. Rohini explained that this was one of the main reasons she stayed away from films for nearly seven years after getting married. She added that Raghuvaran grew up in an environment where women generally did not go out to work, and that mindset influenced his expectations after their wedding.

A long journey back to the cinema

Rohini said it took time and effort for her to return to the industry and rebuild her career. “It took me quite some time to get out of that situation,” she shared. She bounced back from the setbacks, even becoming a director. Looking back, those experiences helped shape me as a person, the actress said. She also stressed the significance of women being able to follow their ambitions and keep their own identity, whatever their personal circumstances.

A career beyond labels and relationships

The actress also expressed disappointment over being frequently identified only as Raghuvaran’s former wife. “I have been in the industry for about 52 years. I lived with Raghuvaran for only seven years,” she said. While acknowledging that Raghuvaran was an important part of her life and the father of her son, Rohini stressed that she has built a long and successful career of her own. “Ask me about my movies, ask about me. I deserve that as a person, as an actor,” she added. Her comments have ignited a fan discussion, with many lauding her honesty about her experience and the importance of recognizing a woman’s successes outside of her romantic relationship.
