Joe Swash recently took part in the popular show ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ , which helps people look back into their ancestry. While filming the episode, the actor ended up getting emotional with his results, which revealed a surprising detail about his ancestry.

Swash had been meaning to find out more details about his father’s side of the family when he joined the show. In the video, which shows him filming for ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ , the ‘EastEnders’ star is seen getting emotional over the revelations.While talking about his family and how things have been in the past, the actor shared that “For me, the past has been something that I’ve, not avoided, but I’ve had no interest in. I lost my dad when I was quite young. He was quite young, only 39. I was only 12.”He further added how he has been dealing with the grief of losing his father at such a young age, citing that a lot of things at home changed a lot of he passed on. He added, “When my dad was alive, my house was full of life and laughter, and then when my dad died, for a long time, it was a house full of sadness and grief. A lot of the time it was just trying to get through that period.” In the show, he had been aiming to know more about where his father came from, which also included a possible link to the Italian mafia. After taking the test, he found out that there is a connection between his great-great-grandfather and Suffragette Sylvia Pankhurst. She was a well-known feminist, socialist, and anti-fascist activist during the 1880s. Through the test, he found out that his father was an active activist of his time and was heavily involved with the Communist Workers’ movement going on at the time.

How Joe Swash felt after finding out about his ancestry

After Swash had more clarity on where he came from, the actor could not help but get emotional. He cited that “It really does fill me with a great deal of pride to think that he was struggling through life anyway, being Italian, living where they were living, but he was still concerned about what was happening in the world and fascism.”He shared how proud he was of his great-great-grandfather and all of the struggle he went through during his time. Not only that but he talked about the kind of ordeals that he may have faced and how he persevered through for what he believed was right.

The actor also weighed in on how his life is right now. He shared that he and his partner, Stacey Solomon, share 5 children and are kept quite busy with taking care of them all the time. “My life is quite chaotic. My work is quite chaotic; it can take me all over the place, and the hours are erratic. And when we get home, we’ve got five kids to look after. So every now and then, I don’t do it enough, I like to go fishing.”Swash and Solomon have four children, namely: Harry, Rex, Rose, and Belle.
