‘Peddi’ Theatrical Release: Ram Charan film targets Rs 500 crore; Netflix bags OTT rights

'Peddi': Will Ram Charan deliver one of the biggest blockbusters of his career after 'RRR'?

‘Peddi,’ the much-awaited movie featuring Ram Charan, is here as it hits the screens worldwide from today (June 3) with many grand premieres planned in different cities. From the time of its release, Peddi has been one of the most anticipated movies in the Tollywood industry. The anticipation has been rising daily through the teaser, trailer, songs, and other promotional works.Given the promising commercial performance before the movie hits theaters, ‘Peddi’ has all the chances to perform exceptionally well in its opening week.

Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor lead a powerful rural sports drama

‘Peddi,’ directed by Babu Sana Buchi, is a rural sports drama that has been shot against a backdrop of eighties sports action and drama. In the movie, Ram Charan plays Peddi Pehelwan, a person with an insatiable fighting attitude. Janhvi Kapoor stars as Achiyyamma in the movie. The cast includes such actors as Shiv Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyendu Sharma, and Boman Irani. The musical score in ‘Peddi’ was done by A.R. Rahman, who had already raised people’s expectations about the movie with his songs and background score. The film’s plot covers themes such as sports, village pride, love affairs, and the protagonist’s problems.

‘Peddi’ records huge pre-release business ahead of release

The film has already achieved impressive business before hitting theatres. As reported by Filmibeat, the theatrical rights in the Telugu states were reportedly sold for Rs 165 crore. ‘Peddi’ reportedly needs around Rs 265 crore gross from the Telugu states alone to reach the breakeven mark. Overseas rights have reportedly fetched Rs 40 crore, with a breakeven target of nearly Rs 85 crore. The above figures show the high degree of confidence that distributors and movie theaters have in the film. The success of pre-release operations for the film has also raised hopes about its success at the box office.

Pan-India release puts ‘Peddi’ in the big league

Unlike a regular Telugu release, ‘Peddi’ is arriving as a pan-Indian film in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. Trade experts estimate that the film needs around Rs 140 crore gross from non-Telugu territories. Overall, the film is targeting a worldwide gross of nearly Rs 500 crore to emerge as a major pan-India success.Only a select few Telugu films have crossed the Rs 500 crore mark worldwide. As a result, ‘Peddi’ enters theatres with both huge opportunities and significant expectations.

Netflix bags ‘Peddi’ OTT release

While the spotlight is currently on the theatrical release, fans are equally curious about the film’s OTT plans. The official streaming release date has not yet been announced. But then again, Netflix has bought out the online rights of the film ‘Peddi,’ and it will premiere after the theatrical release.Taking cues from the latest trends in the film industry, the movie is likely to appear on the online streaming platform somewhere between 6 to 10 weeks post its launch date. But till then, everything else about ‘Peddi’ will revolve around the box office as Ram Charan aims to deliver one of the biggest blockbusters of his career after ‘RRR’ with SS Rajamouli.
