BREAKING: Delhi Malviya Nagar Hotel Fire Claims 21 Lives, PM Announces Compensation

A major fire broke out at a bed and breakfast hotel in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar, resulting in a tragic loss of 21 lives. Around 47 people were rescued from the building, but the operation was extremely difficult due to sealed windows, poor ventilation, and a tightly packed structure. Fire brigade teams rushed to the spot early in the morning, but faced major challenges in controlling the blaze and evacuating people safely. The building is now under scrutiny for serious safety violations. Reports suggest that while only 6 rooms were officially permitted, 20–25 rooms were being operated, including rooms in the basement, leading to overcrowding and unsafe conditions. Local residents played a crucial role in rescue efforts by placing mattresses to save people jumping from upper floors. Several foreign nationals are also believed to be among the victims, as many guests were staying there for medical treatment purposes. The Prime Minister expressed condolences and announced financial assistance of ₹2 lakh for the families of the deceased. The incident has raised serious questions about regulatory failure, fire safety violations, and unchecked illegal construction in urban buildings.
