Jackie Shroff teases ‘Khalnayak Returns’ reunion with Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit

Jackie Shroff teases 'Khalnayak Returns' reunion with Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit: 'Police officer Ram Sinha aur unki dharampatni'

Nearly three decades after Subhash Ghai’s ‘Khal Nayak’ became a cult crime drama, the Bollywood icon Jackie Shroff has dropped a major hint about the long-awaited sequel, ‘Khalnayak Returns’. In a recent candid interview, the veteran actor confirmed he is yet to receive the script but made his desire to reprise the role of police officer Ram Sinha crystal clear and revealed that Madhuri Dixit’s character may also be in the mix.

Jackie Shroff teases ‘Khalnayak Returns’: Will he reunite with Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit?

Bollywood’s beloved “Jaggu Dada” is keeping fans on their toes. In an interview with SCREEN, when asked directly about his involvement in ‘Khalnayak Returns’, the announced sequel to the iconic 1993 film ‘Khal Nayak’, Jackie Shroff delivered a characteristically charming non-answer that said everything.”There’s no discussion yet. The story is yet to reach me. Sanju baba’s posters are already out as Khalnaayak. Bas police officer Ram Sinha aur unki dharampatni peechhe hain,” Shroff said with a smile. The teaser confirms Shroff is tracking the project closely and sees himself and Madhuri Dixit’s character as the moral counterweights to Sanjay Dutt’s returning villain.

Madhuri Dixit is yet to receive official offer for ‘Khalnayak Returns’

Madhuri Dixit, who is set to appear in Suresh Triveni’s comedy ‘Maa Behen’ on Netflix, told SCREEN separately that “as of now”, she has not entered into any formal discussions with the makers of Khalnayak Returns regarding her casting. Fans hoping for the trio’s reunion will need to wait for official announcements.

How Subhash Ghai took a gamble on Jackie Shroff in ‘Khal Nayak’ (1993)

Reflecting on the original film, Shroff was candid about how much of a risk Ghai took in casting him, a raw model from a chawl in such a high-stakes role.Shroff exclainmed, “Baap re! Kya tension liya. Panga liya na?” (Oh my god! He took on so much tension. He really stepped up to the challenge, didn’t he?) said Shroff, crediting Ghai’s legendary care for his actors. “Boss hain toh sambhala unhone. Naap tol ke bachcho ki tarah sambhala. He says his actors are like his kids. He treats them like his own children.” (Since he is the boss, he handled everything. He protected and measured everything for us just like we were his kids.)The bond traces back even further as Ghai gave Shroff his Bollywood breakthrough in the 1983 action romance ‘Hero’, making their creative relationship one of Hindi cinema’s most enduring.

Jackie Shroff on the work front

On the work front, Jackie Shroff’s latest release is ‘The Great Grand Superhero’, directed by three-National Award-winning filmmaker Manish Saini. Shroff’s next theatrical release is Ahmed Khan’s adventure comedy ‘Welcome to the Jungle’, set to hit cinemas on June 26, 2026. The film marks his reunion with Khan six years after ‘Baaghi 3’ (2020), which starred his son Tiger Shroff. Go to Source
