West Bengal Politics: Mamata Banerjee Set for Protest in Kolkata Over Alleged Attacks on TMC Leaders, Police on High Alert

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is expected to lead a major protest in Kolkata today, alleging attacks on Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs and party workers. The planned demonstration has prompted heightened security arrangements across key parts of the city, with Kolkata Police deploying additional personnel and maintaining strict vigil around sensitive locations. According to reports, Mamata Banerjee intends to take part in the protest personally and has indicated that she may stage a sit-in if prevented from proceeding to the designated venue. The demonstration is being organized in response to what the TMC describes as a series of attacks on its leaders, including senior party figures and Members of Parliament. Police authorities have reportedly not granted permission for the protest at the initially proposed location on Rani Rashmoni Road in the Dharmatala area. However, an alternative venue at Y-Channel has reportedly been suggested for the gathering. Security personnel have been deployed in large numbers around the area to prevent any untoward incidents and ensure law and order. The protest comes amid escalating political tensions in West Bengal following recent developments in the state’s political landscape. TMC leaders have repeatedly raised concerns over alleged violence targeting party members, while opposition parties have countered these claims with their own accusations. Security has also been strengthened around Mamata Banerjee’s residence ahead of the demonstration. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as large numbers of party supporters are expected to gather in the city. Political observers view the protest as a significant show of strength by the TMC leadership at a time when the party is facing mounting political challenges. All eyes will now be on how the administration handles the demonstration and whether the event proceeds peacefully amid heightened tensions.
