Celina served legal notices by Peter Haag and FIL over defamation

Celina Jaitly served legal notices by estranged husband Peter Haag and father-in-law over defamatory statements amid divorce battle

Celina Jaitly, who has been embroiled in a legal battle with her estranged husband Peter Haag, has now been served two legal notices by Peter and her father-in-law, Dr. Wolfgang J. Haag. The notices pertain to alleged defamatory statements made in public amid the couple’s ongoing matrimonial and child custody proceedings in Austria.

Peter Haag and father-in-law object to public statements

According to the legal notices reported by IANS, Peter Haag and Dr. Wolfgang J. Haag have raised objections to what they describe as “unverified and defamatory allegations” made against Peter and members of the Haag family through interviews, social media posts, public statements and media publications. The notices state that despite the matrimonial and child custody-related proceedings currently being heard before courts in Austria, the dispute has increasingly become the subject of public discussion and media coverage. They allege that several narratives circulated in the public domain contain unverified claims that have adversely affected Peter Haag and his family.

Concern raised over impact on minor children

A key concern highlighted in the notices is the welfare and privacy of the couple’s three minor children. The notices emphasise that matters involving children should be dealt with “utmost privacy and sensitivity” and should not be subjected to what they describe as parallel media trials. Peter Haag and his father have reportedly called for an immediate halt to the publication and circulation of allegedly defamatory content. They have also sought the removal of the disputed material, a public clarification and unconditional apology, as well as restraint from making any further public statements regarding the ongoing judicial proceedings and the children. In addition, media organisations and digital platforms have been advised to refrain from publishing allegations that have not been independently verified.

Legal expert comments on the dispute

Commenting on the matter, Solicitor Yesha Shah, Partner at Semwal & Co., said that while laws protecting women remain essential safeguards, matrimonial disputes should not be litigated through media narratives.“Laws enacted for the protection of women are among the most important safeguards in a civilised society. However, when matrimonial disputes are converted into public media trials through unverified allegations and emotional narratives, the very sanctity and purpose of such laws stand diluted. Legal remedies must remain instruments of justice and protection, and not tools for public vilification or reputational destruction,” Shah stated. The notices further state that in the event of non-compliance, Peter Haag and Dr. Wolfgang J. Haag reserve the right to initiate appropriate civil and criminal proceedings. These may include claims for damages, compensation and injunctive relief before the competent courts.

Celina and Peter’s relationship

Celina Jaitly married Austrian entrepreneur and hotelier Peter Haag in 2010. The couple welcomed twin sons in 2012.In 2017, they were blessed with another set of twins. However, one of the children passed away due to a congenital heart condition shortly after birth. The latest development comes months after Celina filed a case against Peter in November 2025, alleging that she had been subjected to continuous domestic violence during the marriage. The matter remains under judicial consideration in Austria, with both sides pursuing legal remedies through the courts.
