CRIME ALERT: Maharashtra Cracks Down on Illegal Liquor as Death Toll in Toxic Alcohol Case Rises

Authorities in Maharashtra have intensified their crackdown on illegal liquor operations following a deadly toxic alcohol tragedy that has claimed multiple lives in the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad regions. In a major enforcement action, district authorities and police launched demolition drives against illegal liquor manufacturing units in the Kolhapur district, targeting unauthorized brewing facilities allegedly linked to illicit alcohol networks. In the Kaneriwadi area of Kolhapur, officials used heavy machinery to dismantle illegal liquor dens and destroy large quantities of seized alcohol. The operation forms part of a broader effort to curb unlawful alcohol production and distribution following public outrage over recent fatalities linked to suspected spurious liquor consumption. Meanwhile, the death toll in the toxic liquor case has continued to rise, reaching 18 victims across affected areas. Authorities reported that fatalities have been recorded in both Pimpri-Chinchwad and Pune, while several individuals remain hospitalized in critical condition. Medical teams are closely monitoring patients undergoing treatment as concerns persist that the toll could increase further. Investigators probing the case have identified key suspects allegedly involved in the supply chain of the toxic alcohol. According to preliminary findings, one accused is suspected of purchasing liquor in bulk before distributing it through local retail networks. Police are also examining allegations that hazardous substances, including industrial chemicals, may have been mixed with the alcohol to increase volume and profits. The revelations have raised serious questions about regulatory oversight, illegal liquor networks, and public safety. State authorities have vowed strict action against all those involved, while law enforcement agencies continue raids and investigations to uncover the full extent of the operation. The incident has renewed calls for stronger monitoring mechanisms and harsher penalties against those responsible for manufacturing and distributing illicit alcohol.
