NEW DELHI: CBSE is planning to directly provide scanned answer sheets to Class 12 students through DigiLocker from 2027 along with the marksheets. This was stated by a senior official of the ministry of education on Friday, even as the national education board’s On Screen Marking (OSM) has come under scrutiny amid complaints of answer-sheet mix-ups, portal glitches, payment failures and overcharging of application fees.Currently, the post-result process takes place in two stages. In the first, students apply online to obtain scanned copies of evaluated answer sheets. Then, they can seek verification of marks or apply for re-evaluation of specific answers.Ministry sources also informed 20 more students were allegedly provided scanned copies of answer sheets belonging to other candidates because of scanning mix-ups linked to security features embedded during digitisation. One such case involved a student, Vedant, who claimed he had received unexpectedly low marks despite performing well in physics. During the re-evaluation process, it was allegedly discovered that his answer sheet had been mistakenly replaced with that of another student.Ministry officials also said at least 50 students were overcharged during the application process for obtaining scanned copies and applying for verification or re-evaluation after the declaration of the XII board results this year. Multiple students also reported payment gateway failures and repeated deductions.Around two lakh students had obtained scanned copies of answer sheets in 2025, while this year the number crossed four lakh, significantly increasing pressure on the system.Teams from IIT-Madras and IIT-Kanpur have been asked to examine CBSE’s portal and technical infrastructure following complaints related to server load, payment failures and possible unauthorised attacks during peak traffic periods. The board’s on-screen marking system has also drawn criticism from some students and teachers who alleged that certain answer sheets were not properly visible during digital evaluation.
