A massive five-alarm fire broke out in downtown Baltimore on Tuesday evening, engulfing at least one vacant building and triggering a large-scale emergency response. According to CBS News, the blaze erupted at a four-story vacant structure located near North Howard Street and West Fayette Street, with flames spreading to adjacent buildings.
Emergency crews were first dispatched to the area around 3:05 pm, and the fire was officially reported in the 200 block of West Fayette Street by 3:30 pm. Fire officials quickly escalated the response as the flames intensified, and by 4:30 pm, firefighters were attacking the fire from the exterior using ladder pipes and high-volume monitor pipes.

Officials confirmed that at least one of the buildings has collapsed, though they do not expect the fire to spread further. Fortunately, all three structures involved were unoccupied at the time of the incident, and no injuries have been reported.
Baltimore City Fire Department is being assisted by several agencies, including the Baltimore Police Department, the Department of Transportation, and the Department of Public Works (DPW), all of which have responded to the scene to assist with safety, traffic, and infrastructure management.

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) announced that Light Rail service between Camden Station and North Avenue has been suspended due to ongoing fire department activity. Shuttle buses are being provided as an alternative for affected riders. Additionally, CityLink Red service is being rerouted between Fayette Street and Liberty Street, with detours expected to remain in place until at least 11:30 pm.
